Biographical Elements
Carl Wiedemann is a free-lance videographer and Steadicam operator based in Chicago.
He does Steadicam work for corporate videos and dramatic
films, as well as on myriad shorts and promotional films.
He frequently shoots for Fig
Media Inc. and Breakbone
DanceCo.
Carl acquired solid training shooting and editing 16mm film at Ithaca College in upstate New York. He then immersed himself in black and white cinematography and sound design while acquiring a Master of Fine Arts degree and working on grant funded Art Films in New York and Chicago.
Carl became a certified Steadicam operator in 1994 and has worked for over 10 years as an owner/operator on Corporate and Dramatic projects on both film and video. Carl has segued from the analog to digital era and currently shoots Digital Video, doing post-production work on Macintosh systems (using Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro).
Carl has a proclivity for shooting dynamic, dramatic and visceral situations, (dance, bands, fashion, construction, demolition, music videos, surgery), but is also adept with low key situations where technical and aesthetic fundamentals are required (for interviews, documentaries and creative "b-roll"). Carl holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Cinema and Photography from Ithaca College (Magna Cum Laude) and an MFA in Filmmaking from the School of the Art Institute (Full Merit Scholarship).
He has made short, 16mm films which have screened internationally and at numerous U.S festivals of underground films.
Carl has received filmmaking grants from the Illinois Arts Council , the Chicago Underground Film Fund, and the New York State Council on the Arts.
In 1994 he took the Cinema Products, 5-day intensive Steadicam training class.
The filmmaker coalesced in Rochester, NY and currently resides in Chicago.
